Nurses Are Crucial To Our Collaborative, Innovative Approach to Patient Care

As an academic health system, the University of Chicago Medicine offers many challenging career paths for registered nurses. Whether you have many years of experience or just completed your nursing degree, you can find a rewarding nursing position at UChicago Medicine.

In addition to competitive salaries, our registered nurses receive outstanding benefits and educational opportunities, including:

  • 100 percent tuition reimbursement for BSN and MSN completion at the school of their choice
  • 75 percent tuition reimbursement toward the completion of a doctoral degree in nursing

Our nurses work at the forefront of medicine — providing the best and most advanced care available. Here, collaboration is the key to high-quality patient care. Nurses are an integral part of our acclaimed care teams. They work side-by-side with internationally recognized physicians, scientists and other health care professionals.

UChicago Medicine's long tradition of innovation means nurses are exposed to leading-edge technology and research every day. Our nurses regularly take part in the implementation of advanced patient care protocols that often become the standard for care elsewhere. In addition, our nurses work with patients from all walks of life and handle cases at every level of complexity. Such advantages go unmatched in the greater Chicago area.

UChicago Medicine received the prestigious Magnet Recognition Program designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for excellence in nursing and patient care.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Over five years of hard work and service had led up to this moment.

U Chicago Medicine has been awarded magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Administrators, nurses, and other staff were there to witness the big news be delivered via phone call.

To be up on the podium, see the look on everybody's faces, people just erupted in emotion. The tears of joy, clapping, screaming, streamers, and confetti, it was just pure energy around the room. It's exciting. It's relieving. It's exhilarating. I think it's also inspiring because knowing that we can do this for our patients, it just inspires us to do even more.

We decided to take this journey because we knew it was the right thing to do for our patients and their families, who ultimately are the recipients and the benefactors from magnet recognition. After all, that is why we are here working for an academic health system, which is to improve, to provide superior care to our patients and to our community.

Magnet recognition is the highest and most prestigious distinction a health care organization can receive for nursing excellence and high quality patient care, an honor that nurses and all staff at U Chicago Medicine have worked hard to achieve.

Well, I am very proud because we've worked really hard as nurses, as an institution. And just to see my nurses now get to be recognized for the hard things that they do, the work that they've been doing, the time they put in, all the things we've been working on for a long time, we finally got it.

And while this recognition showcases the work of its nurses, it's a testament to U Chicago Medicine's commitment to the patients they serve.

The distinction, granted in April 2018 after a lengthy and rigorous review process, recognizes health care organizations that have the highest standards for nursing excellence and professional performance in a variety of areas, including evidence-based practice and research, education, ethics, leadership and collaboration.
